Winters in the Pacific Northwest are a story in contrast. One week you can be shooting glorious orange sunsets and the next consists entirely of monochromatic skies and rain. The latter accurately describes this past week. I’ll be honest, it was hard getting out into the weather to search out something compelling for this week’s post. But I decided to embrace the grayness and spend a whole morning shooting black and white.

In fairness I was still shooting in color but I set my Sony RX1R’s viewfinder to black and white and spent 2 hours viewing the world without color. Although there wasn’t much color to begin with. But every now and again I shoot this way. By removing color from my viewfinder I focus more on the elements of my composition rather than the bling of the color.

I shot all of these images handheld with my Sony RX1R. No tripod, no filters and no long exposure.  For this week’s post I’ll let the images speak for themselves and include the location and exposure info.
